About European Business Council for Africa and the Mediterranean (EBCAM) >>

Click here for details of EBCAM

EBCAM founded in 1973, is the Organisation grouping all European employers' Associations of the private sector specialising in developing economic relationships with African countries.

EBCAM brings together European investors and companies engaged in economic activity in the African continent, and co-operating closely with Europe.

EBCAM represents over 2000 companies with interests and investments in Africa from the Maghreb to South Africa and through its activities provides services and information to many thousands more.

EBCAM is the only organisation that comprehensively represents all business activities undertaken in Africa by European companies (commerce, industry, agriculture, mining, transport, banking and the service sector).

Our Role
EBCAM is the principal private sector interlocutor of the EU institutions and of African countries on matters affecting the interests of the private sector in Africa. Located in Brussels, EBCA participates in the formulation of an European development policy for Africa, cooperating with Institutions of the European Union, the European Investment Bank, the Centre for the Development of Enterprises - CDE, the European Development Finance Institutions - EDFI, ACP Secretariat, the African Union and other relevant organisations.

EBCAM also represents international institutions ensuring the necessary liaison with other professional European groups.

EBCAM believes that the private sector plays a key role in the economic development of African countries. For this reason it promotes and fosters trade investments in Africa and has played an important part in the preparation for the Barcelona Agreement in 1995 and the Cotonou Agreement in 2000 and now continues to monitor and give advice on all aspects of their implementation which affect the private sector in Africa and is actively promoting current initiatives and investment in the continent.
